An explosion at a military training ground near Severodvinsk in the Arkhangelsk region occurred during a test by the Russian military of a prototype of a Burevestnik nuclear cruise missile, which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in February this year, writes The New York Times, citing United States intelligence .

Russia calls this missile 9M730 "Petrel", NATO designated it as SSC-X-9 Skyfall.

Nuclear experts from the United States have previously said they suspect that an accidental explosion and emission of radiation in northern Russia occurred during tests of a cruise missile with the Burevestnik nuclear installation.
