Volkswagen is threatened with a new multi-million dollar fine. This time, the government of Canada decided to hold the manufacturer accountable, which charged 60 points. Of these, the majority (58) are associated with the illegal import of Volkswagen about 128 thousand cars that did not meet emission standards. It is a period from January 2008 to December 2015. The two remaining violations relate to the provision of false information.

Charges were brought up as a result of an investigation conducted by Environment and Climate Change Canada for 4 years. It was dedicated to Volkswagen diesel engines and the software used to hide the real level of emissions of harmful substances. The details of the investigation are still classified. It is known that Volkswagen at the end of this week will have to appear before the court of Ontario. Most likely, the group will be obliged to pay another impressive fine as a punishment.

According to the Global News publication, which refers to a Volkswagen representative, the company “fully cooperated” with the investigation during the investigation. It is assumed that the German concern has already prepared a confession of guilt and a solution to the conflict.

Volkswagen turned up at the dieselgate center in 2015, and a scandal with subsequent trials began in the United States. Local regulators found that Volkswagen intentionally misrepresented the real volume of emissions of harmful substances. For this, special software was used, which made it possible to underestimate the performance on tests.

The concern later pleaded guilty, began to pay fines, compensation, and also send cars to the service for reconfiguring the software. This process, in fact, has affected the whole world. In total, the dieselgate led to the recall of approximately 11 million vehicles worldwide, as well as to the payment of fines, legal costs and compensation, which to date amounted to over $ 33 billion. In the United States alone, Volkswagen paid a fine of $ 4.3 billion.
