Hyundai set two “green” speed records »News GoGetNews

Two teams of Hyundai engineers set speed records on the salt lakes of Bonneville, which are now undergoing the homologation procedure at the FIA. Cars performed in classes of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and gasoline-electric hybrids. The public display of the Nexo crossover and Sonata Hybrid sedan prepared for these races will take place at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Eco-friendly concepts for Bonneville were built by the forces of the American and South Korean units of Hyundai, as well as tested by engineers of the American technical center of the brand. The Nexo crossover will compete for the title of the fastest hydrogen car – it will accelerate to 170.85 km / h, and all the data has already been transferred for registration with the FIA.

The crossover is equipped with an aerodynamic skirt under the bumper, a safety cage, a Sparco racing bucket, six-point belts, a fire extinguishing system and nets on the windows.

The experimental Hyundai Sonata accelerated to 265.01 km / h. To do this, it was equipped with sports shock absorbers and KW springs, special Goodyear Eagle tires, Vision Rally 55 wheels with aerodynamic caps. In addition, a modified exhaust manifold and Injen Technology tract, a recalibrated ECU, a nitrous oxide injection system were installed on the sedan, and VP Racing MS 109 racing fuel was poured into the fuel tank.

In 2018, the 608-horsepower Volkswagen Jetta set a Bonneville speed record. The sedan was able to accelerate to 338.2 km / h, improving the previous achievement by 2.7 km / h. The record Jetta was built on the basis of a production model according to the requirements of the South California Californian Association's BGC / G class and was equipped with a modified two-liter turbo engine from a sports Jetta GLI, combined with a six-speed “mechanics”.
