Microsoft returns to the mobile market with a clamshell smartphone | GoGetNews News

At a special event from Microsoft, where the new Windows 10X operating system was presented, the corporation, unexpectedly for everyone, introduced the folding smartphone Surface Duo. The novelty runs on Android instead of the buried Windows Phone, and will go on sale next year.

The design of the device resembles a hybrid Surface Neo laptop with two screens, but on a pocket scale. The Surface Duo is equipped with two 5.6-inch displays that can open up to 360 degrees, which allows you to turn it into a miniature 8.3-inch tablet. This smartphone is a kind of response to the folding smartphones Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, the output of which is always delayed.

On each display, you can also launch two different applications at the same time, or switch to landscape mode, which allows you to use the second display as a keyboard or game controller. The Surface Duo runs on a modified Android 10 with a redesigned interface reminiscent of Windows 10X, which runs the larger Surface Neo.

The folding smartphone runs on the Snapdragon 855 processor, but Microsoft does not disclose other specifications. It is also known that the prototype was demonstrated at the presentation, which means that by the time it is released its design may change. For example, the smartphone does not have a camera, which may be mounted by the time the device goes on sale in 2020.
