Scientists have found the only way to keep the wheel right | GoGetNews News

Japanese scientists conducted an unusual study that helped determine the correct position of the hands on the steering wheel in a car.

Scientists have noticed that the force with which you need to turn it depends on the position of the steering wheel grip, as the position of the hands affects the work of the muscles. And the position of the hands at "nine and three" is the most correct, including because of the airbag located in the center of the steering wheel.

To test this, the researchers seated behind the wheel of a simulator (more like a helm) of 10 participants who held it in four given positions, starting from neutral (3 and 9) and ending with deviations of 30 and 60 degrees in both directions. The experimenters measured the effort required by the participants to turn the steering wheel. The neutral “horizontal” position of the hands turned out to be the most adequate, although, scientists noted, sensory bias can confuse the driver.

An interesting nuance: the “experimental” had to turn the steering wheel with only one hand, which is unusual for most motorists. Those drivers who drive with one hand in life usually put it for 12 hours, the experiment says, but this can lead to injuries in the event of an airbag deployment.
