Slovenian President invited to resign due to statements about Ukraine

28 representatives of Slovenian intelligentsia wrote an open letter to President Borut Pahor, calling on him to resign because of applications to grant Ukraine and Turkey a “special” status in the European Union. It is reported by RTVSLO.

"Last week, President Borut Pahor made an inappropriate, unreasonable, xenophobic and objectively politically and diplomatically harmful statement to Slovenia that Turkey and Ukraine cannot count on full EU membership," the letter said.

Representatives of the Slovenian intelligentsia believe that Pahor, in his remarks, violated the declaration and strategy of Slovenian foreign policy. In their opinion, such statements may affect international confidence in Slovenia, as well as the deterioration of economic relations with Ukraine and Turkey.
