Scientists have introduced the AREI index, which reflects the average environmental impact of one serving of the product. It shows how the production of such a portion is related to greenhouse gas emissions, occupied land, environmental pollution, water demand and other environmental factors. They determined that meat is the highest AREI.
“The highest AREI for unprocessed red meat is 73 units per serving. The processed one has 37 units, ”the authors of the project said.

According to them, the world is growing in the consumption of products that are harmful to both people and the environment. Scientists recommend eating cereals, fruits, vegetables, or fish more often.
According to experts, whole grains, olive oil, fruits, vegetables and nuts are low-risk foods and they have the lowest average environmental impact.
