The United States is considering three packages of sanctions against Ankara for the Russian S-400

The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering three packages of sanctions to punish Turkey for its purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system.

It is reported by Bloomberg, citing people knowledgeable with the question.

"The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering three packages of sanctions in order to punish Turkey for its purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system," the report said.

According to the three interlocutors, the most powerful package of sanctions, which is now being considered, can hit hard on the already weak Turkish economy.

Against the background of information on sanctions, Turkish lira has lost 1.5% of its value on Wednesday morning.

According to sources, another package of sanctions, which is now being considered and has the greatest support from US officials, is to impose sanctions against several Turkish defense companies for cooperation with Russia. Thus, these companies will be virtually cut off from the American financial system and will not be able to buy American parts or sell their own in the United States.

According to interlocutors, Washington may impose restrictive measures against Ankara in July, when Turkey will begin to receive the first components of the Russian S-400 air defense system.

It is noted that Trump does not want to make a decision on sanctions before his meeting with the head of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which will be held at the G20 summit in Japanese Osaka in late June.
