The award was given to the Ukrainian scientist "for his outstanding contribution to experimental activity in the field of elementary particle physics, from designing and modeling new experiments, operations with test beams and analysis, to analyzing data and their final theoretical interpretations."
Lesya Shchutskaya, a Ukrainian from Vinnitsa, now heads the laboratory of high energy physics at the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne.

Two years ago, she won a grant from the European Research Council for research using the capabilities of the Large Hadron Collider.
