US and China make no progress in trade negotiations »GoGetNews News

The US-China alternate trade talks in Washington aimed at laying the groundwork for high-level talks at the end of this week have made no progress. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.

As the newspaper was informed by two sources aware of the situation, this is about the main, critical issues in which no compromise was reached. So, the Chinese representatives refused to talk about forced technology transfers, which is the main complaint of the United States regarding the economic policy of China.

Negotiations also bypassed the issue of government subsidies, which, according to the Trump administration, give Chinese companies an unfair advantage over international competitors.

Deputy negotiators, led by China's vice minister of finance, Liao Min, spent time focusing on only two areas: purchasing agricultural products and protecting intellectual property.

The Chinese side was not able to convince the American negotiators to consider the possibility of freezing tariff increases, which is the main priority for Beijing.

Tariffs on Chinese goods by $ 250 billion will be increased from 25 to 30 percent, while on December 15 new duties will be introduced in the amount of 15 percent on consumer goods, mainly by $ 160 billion.
