Volkswagen Touareg will receive a “charged” version »News GoGetNews

Rumors about a possible release of the Touareg R have been around for a long time, but now they have received official confirmation. Jürgen Stackmann, head of Volkswagen's marketing department, told Autocar on the sidelines of the premiere of the new Golf that the expansion of the R family will begin next year.

And this will not be the first R-modification in the history of the model: several years ago Volkswagen produced the first generation Touareg with the R50 index, which was equipped with a powerful 10-cylinder diesel engine. With a volume of 5.0 liters, it developed 345 hp. and 850 Nm of torque. And now the SUV has an even more powerful diesel engine.

The chances that the current generation Touareg R will also be diesel, meanwhile, are few. According to preliminary data, Volkswagen is inclined to provide the most powerful and fastest Tuareg hybrid power plant based on a two-liter gasoline turbo engine. This Touareg is already sold in China and has 360 hp. and 700 Nm, but for the R-news, the power plant output can be raised to 400 with a little hp.

But the SUV seems to have avoided the opportunity to turn into a full-fledged electric car – Jürgen Stackmann said that at the moment this is unrealistic. Hybrid VW Touareg R will appear on the market, most likely, in 2021.
