While there is no progress in the “Minsk”, Russia will not be able to return to the G8 – Macron

Emmanuel Macron sees no reason for the restoration of the G8 format with Russia, but he is in favor of strengthening the dynamics in the strategic dialogue with Moscow.

This was the French leader said in an interview with the French-speaking Swiss television channel RTS.

“I think that today Russia should make efforts … I think that while there is no clear and effective progress in the Minsk process, there can be no restoration of the G8,” said the President of France, who currently presides over the G7.

Therefore, Macron ruled out the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the G7 summit, which the French side will take on August 24-26 in the city of Biarritz, due to the lack of progress in resolving the “Ukrainian crisis”.

Instead, he said that he plans to intensify the dynamics of the strategic dialogue with Moscow in the coming weeks and to discuss this issue personally with Putin.

As you know, Russia was excluded from the G8 format after the start of military aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of the Crimea.
